So often we function as if everything is alright--we have it under control. Deep down inside we know that we are on the brink of collapse.
Seeking help—whether as an individual, couple, or family—is not a sign of weakness but one of faith and courage. Don’t give in to shame or pride. Seek the help you need. These resources will provide information that may address some of your concerns.
No matter how dreary the situation or how overwhelming the problem, there is hope!
Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation
A nonprofit organization founded by Taraji P. Henson in honor of her father, Boris Lawrence Henson. Mr. Henson suffered with mental health challenges as a result of his tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Their vision is to change “the perception of mental illness in the African-American community by encouraging those who suffer with this debilitating illness to get the help they need.”
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
This agency is within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In its effort to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness, SAMSA leads “public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders, and their families.”
